Getting Started with Vault
Welcome to Vault. This guide will walk you through everything you need to get started — from creating your account and setting up your wallet, to making your first deposit and exploring the app's features.
Creating your account
Vault signs you in with your email and a self-custodial embedded wallet — there's no separate password to create, and no seed phrase to write down before you even get started.
Enter your email
Vault doesn't use passwords. Enter your email address and we'll send you a one-time 6-digit sign-in code.
Verify the code
Enter the 6-digit code from your inbox. New devices may also need a one-time email verification link before continuing.
Set up two-factor authentication
First-time sign-ins require you to add 2FA — either a passkey (Face ID, Touch ID, Windows Hello, or a security key) or an authenticator app (1Password, Google Authenticator, Authy).
Save your recovery codes
If you enrol with an authenticator app, you'll be shown one-time recovery codes. Store them somewhere safe — they're the only way back in if you lose access to your authenticator.
Understanding your wallet
As soon as you sign up, Vault creates a wallet for you behind the scenes. It's a real, self-custodial wallet — the same kind you'd get from a browser extension or hardware device — just without the setup friction.
Self-custodial by default
Signing up creates an embedded wallet that belongs entirely to you. No Vault employee or server can access, move, or freeze your funds.
One wallet, every chain family
Vault provisions addresses for each chain family you use — Ethereum (EVM), Solana, and Bitcoin — all tied to the same account and secured the same way.
Secured with MPC
Your private key is protected using Multi-Party Computation. It is split into shares that are never assembled in one place, so no single point of failure can expose it.
Exportable whenever you want
You can export your private key at any time from Account, then Wallets, in the Security section — useful if you want to import your wallet into another app.
You can view your wallet addresses at any time under Account → Wallets. For a deeper look at how self-custody and key security work on Vault, see the Security support page.
Making your first deposit
There are two ways to fund your Vault wallet: buy crypto directly with fiat, or receive crypto you already hold from an exchange or another wallet.
Buy crypto with fiat
Open Trade, then Buy & Sell, choose your fiat currency and amount, and pick a payment method. Crypto lands directly in your Vault wallet — no separate exchange step needed.
Or receive crypto from elsewhere
On Assets, select the asset you hold and choose Receive. Vault shows a QR code and address matched to the right network for that asset.
Send from an exchange or another wallet
Copy the address (or scan the QR code) and send from your exchange account or another wallet, making sure you select the same network Vault is showing.
Track the deposit
Funds usually arrive within a few minutes depending on the network. You can follow the status on the Transactions page once it is broadcast.
For a full walkthrough of buying and selling crypto with fiat, including identity verification and payment methods, see the Onramping & Offramping support page.
